Our home cooked meals help your child's strength & development...

Nutrition

NutritionAt Riverside Nursery, we aim to provide the children in our care with a wide variety of nutritious meals and snacks. Careful consideration goes into the planning of our menus which are rotated on a 4 weekly basis and are changed between the summer and winter months to enable us to incorporate locally sourced seasonal products. We only use high quality meat, fish and fresh fruit and vegetables, and the control of additives & preservatives is always paramount. Our menus also take into consideration individual dietary and/or cultural requirements.

We employ a full time, qualified cook and a qualified kitchen assistant to prepare and produce home cooked meals and snacks. We are proud to say that at Riverside, we have 5 star food hygiene rating and also the ‘Recipe for Health’ gold award.

Scheduled snack time takes place mid-morning with a drink of water or milk and a choice of snacks being available. Whilst we understand individual children have their own choices and preferences, they are still encouraged to partake in the full and varied diet that we offer. We also encourage the children to look after their teeth and we do NOT provide juice/cordial.

Social DevelopmentSocial Development

The social aspect of mealtimes is emphasised, as staff sit at the tables with children in small groups to encourage conversation.  Sharing refreshments plays an important role in socialising children, as well as reinforcing an understanding of healthy eating. The children will eat together in an area where table manners are always encouraged through staff supervision.

Dietary Requirements

Before your child starts at the Nursery, we can discuss with you your child’s dietary needs, including allergies and appropriate arrangements will be made to meet individual needs. We also pay attention to dietary rules of religious groups and provide for vegetarians in appropriate ways.
