Behavioural Policy

At Riverside Nursery we follow proven best practice guidelines, whilst keeping up to date with latest thinking in care and education, in order to achieve & maintain the very best reputation possible. To this effect we have developed a number of policies that are approved by OFSTED, and are constantly reviewed to ensure that we are always up to date.

Behaviour Management

At Riverside Nursery we believe that children lead by good example and expect that our Staff will display exemplary behaviour at all times. We:

  • Promote acceptable behaviour and respect for others at all times
  • Not tolerate bullying or any other forms of unacceptable behaviour
  • Establish & maintain clear boundaries according to the child’s level of understanding
  • Reassure the children that they are valued as individuals, and discuss with them the need to have ‘rules’ in Nursery
  • Provide information, instruction, training & supervision for our employees so that we are all aware how to best manage children’s behaviour
  • Discuss, agree & explain with all newcomers what is expected of them whilst at Riverside Nursery
  • Take positive steps to avoid situations where children receive adult attention only in return for undesirable behaviour

The methods we will use to manage positive behaviour will be varied depending on the age & stage of development of the child, but will always follow the basic principles of:

  • Distraction – diverting the child’s attention elsewhere
  • Discussion – with any relevant children/adults
  • Praise & reward – for any examples of positive behaviour
  • ‘Time Out’ – if behaviour continues after discussion, the child will sit away from the activity for a minute of each year they are old (2yrs = 2 minutes)
